The inaugural season of SFDanceworks, a new repertory company founded by James Sofranko to present the best dance works of the past, present, and push the art form into the future, will feature the works of five choreographers. Works include Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's in-demand resident choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo's Lickety-Split, and the Adagio from world renowned choreographer Lar Lubovitch's masterpiece, Concerto Six Twenty-Two, set to Mozart's iconic clarinet concerto.
Also on the program is Joe & Ida, a world premiere from emerging choreographer and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancer Penny Saunders, presented in conjunction with Grand Rapids Ballet. Former San Francisco Ballet soloist Dana Genshaft's world premiere solo Portrait draws its inspiration from the life of Georges Sand, the French novelist known for her romantic links to Chopin, preference for men's clothes, and the way she challenged how women in her time defined themselves. Artistic director James Sofranko also offers a world premiere solo, entitled Z, which highlights the dynamism of celebrated dancer Anne Zivolich-Adams, former long time company member with ODC/Dance.
