Fourteen finalists in two tiers will participate in the third annual James Toland Vocal Arts Competition before a panel of judges and audience at Holy Names University, Oakland on Saturday, June 25. Tier II finalists appear at 3:30 p.m., Tier I finalists at 7:00 p.m. In addition to monetary prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000, the Grand Prize winner will be given an opportunity to perform as a guest artist with Maestro Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony. Additionally, one finalist will be selected for a performance opportunity with the Masterworks Chorale in San Mateo. An "Audience Favorite" award will be presented to one singer in each Tier as selected by vote during the competition.
On Friday afternoon, June 24, 2016, Tier II finalists will participate in an open master class with soprano Robin Fisher. On Friday evening, June 24, 2016, Tier I finalists will participate in an open master class with Yale faculty member and conductor Timothy Shaindlin, followed immediately by a complimentary "Meet The Singers" reception. All events are open to the public.
