Special reception July 1, 6pm to 9pm on view every Friday and Saturday until July 9th
The Fourth Wall Gallery, the newest addition to the vibrant art scene of Uptown Oakland, is pleased to present Israeli artist Vered Gersztenkorn in her first solo exhibition in the United States: waking/ DREAMS, curated by Carl Heyward. A special reception for the work will be held on July 1st from 6 to 9pm. The show will also be available for viewing every Friday and Saturday until July 9th.
Gersztenkorn, a self-taught artist, defies characterization in her whimsical, deceptively simple renderings of figures and settings that smoothly examine and explore the human condition. Her canvases are populated by half-human, half-animal characters in various states of angst, awe, joy, and desire. Her work demonstrates her remarkable versatility as a colorist defined by bold abstractions that are both soothing and jarring all at once.
She is a highly exhibited artist with an international following and is associated with Global Art Project, a group of mixed-media collaborative artists of which she is a founding member.
The Fourth Wall Gallery exhibition affords an opportunity to witness Gersztenkorn's sly humor and keen observation of an anxiety both personal and universal.
