Declaring German baritone Christian Gerhaher's SF Performances 2014-15 season opening recital as "phenomenal", the San Francisco Chronicle went on to say, "This was a brilliantly organized program, executed with a combination of elegance and dramatic fervor that most singers could only envy." Gerhaher, known for his inimitable "perfectly-honed" timbre as well as tremendously intelligent programming that elevate his recitals to a rare level of sophistication and artistry, returns for an all-Mahler evening with his longtime collaborator, pianist Gerold Huber.
Christian Gerhaher's exemplary lied interpretations with Gerold Huber set standards - their recordings have repeatedly won prizes. The lied album Nachtviolen, issued in 2014, received the Gramophone Classical Music Award 2015 in the solo vocal category. Gerhaher is also a highly sought-after performer on the opera stage and has received several prizes such as the Laurence Olivier Award and the theatre prize Der Faust. The lied duo can be heard on the stages of major international recital centres, for instance in the concert halls of New York, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Cologne and Berlin Philharmonie.
Join Gerharer and Hubert as they present Mahler's Die Einsame im Herbst and Der Abschied from Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler's own piano arrangements) Sieben Lieder aus letzter Zeit.
