After a sold-out run last winter, detour dance and EmSpace Dance come together again in Shotgun's BLAST theatre festival. This time, we bring you a double bill of dance theater full of enlightened monkeys, estranged starlets, and underneath it all, our need for connection.
detour dance, directed by Kat Cole and Eric Garcia, brings back our 2014 work Filaments, a reverie of vanity, grotesque attention-seeking and, ultimately, the need for community. Filaments features storytelling, song, full-bodied dance, and idiosyncratic theatricality.
EmSpace Dance brings a reimagined version of audience favorite Monkey Gone to Heaven (2013) to the stage. Through dance, stories, and song, Monkey Gone to Heaven looks at how we use both primates and prayer to understand being human.
