For their big holiday production this year, City of Pleasanton Civic Arts Stage Company in partnership with Bay Area Children's Theatre present the "Getting to Know Collection" youth theater adaptation of the beloved musical The Sound of Music.
All performances take place at Pleasanton's Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton. Shows run Friday, December 9 through Sunday, December 18: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
"We chose this young performers version of The Sound of Music because it is an iconic musical theatre piece that is a perfect show for the whole family to enjoy," says Rebecca Posamentier, Education Director at BACT. "The songs are familiar to all ages, and in this shortened version of the original Broadway musical, the content is now also appropriate for younger children who may be in the audience. This show provides our young actors the opportunity to truly shine as they bring these beloved characters and songs to life!"
Remember the story? A re-telling of the real-life adventures of the Von Trapp family in Austria: When novice Maria proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is sent away from the convent to serve as a governess for the seven Von Trapp children, whose withdrawn father is a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry.
75 young actors, ranging from ages 8 to 15, are split into the "Raindrops Cast" and the "Roses Cast."
In her 6th year of directing with BACT, Amber Dyson helms her 4th production with Civic Arts Stage Company. Music Director Branden Noel Thomas and Choreographer Sidney Spiegel are both celebrating their first show with Civic Arts, and Stage Manager Zach Goldberg returns for his 5th production with the company.
