Oakland Bay Area Community Chorus (OBACC) under the direction of Maestro William (Bill) Bell presents Its annual Christmas Concert: "We Have Seen His Star." "A Christmas Homecoming" is the theme for this concert.
The Chorus had its origin at Downs Memorial UMC in Oakland as a combined choir. It has expanded to a nonprofit Community Organization whose mission is the preservation of the traditional African American Spiritual (AKA Negro Spiritual) by continuing to give voice to this unique historical music that served as church music and a means of communication during slavery. It has been referred to, by some, as the only true American Folk Music.
William Bell, a multifaceted musician extraordinaire, known throughout the Bay Area as the "Jazz Professor", is the founder and director of the chorus. Sandra Iglehart, Assistant Director, a retired teacher of music and voice and currently a Choir director, is an accomplished and gifted musician.
The program will feature Traditional Christmas Spirituals and Gospel.
