Black Elected Officials & Faith-Based Leaders of the East Bay (BEO&FBL) is hosting its annual Community Leaders Recognition Awards Reception on Wednesday, December 14th at Everett & Jones Q's Lounge in Oakland.
Led by Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, the BEO&FBL has brought together elected and faith leaders to collaborate on addressing our most pressing community challenges for over 15 years. BEO&FBL's annual reception honors civic and faith leaders who have led innovative initiatives and demonstrated unwavering commitment to promote systemic change in our communities.
Supervisor Keith Carson believes these awards offer an opportunity to highlight those who are working to provide services, resources, and advocacy for those in greatest need. "As we recognize the contributions of these incredible local leaders, we look to their examples and others on how to use our positions of leadership to continue developing innovative solutions to the issues on the ground."
This year, the Honorable Willie L. Brown will offer his reflections on the state of our current leadership and how to prepare the next generation of leaders for the challenges ahead. Emerging leaders Melvin Cowan, a graduate student at USF, and Serena Witherspoon, an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, will co-facilitate the discussion with Mr. Brown.
State Assemblymember Tony Thurmond and Oakland City Council President will serve as Master and Mistress of Ceremonies.
