The theme for the 6th annual conference is "Alternatives to Suspension and Expulsion". It provides an opportunity to explore how we can use our school and classroom practices to support students and their needs.
Keynote Speaker is Dr. Arash Daneshzadeh, a Lecturer from University of SF and Associate Director of the Urban Strategies Council. He coordinates nationwide efforts for the "Save Our Schools Campaign", which aims to disrupt and dismantle youth incarceration. He is also a faculty member of the Prison University Project at San Quentin and has held positions at CURYJ (Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice) in Oakland, TRIO Director at Skyline Community College, and Director of Community School Engagement for the SFUSD.
Breakout sessions focus on sharing learning strategies and developing greater empathy. Topics include but are not limited to: Mindfulness training The emotional brain Meditation instruction for youth Reorienting school norms Institutionalizing peace in the classroom Implications of AB420 Youth-led violence prevention
The conference is for everyone who works with children in grades K-12: parents, teachers, administrators, classroom aides, school personnel and students.
Morning refreshments and a catered lunch are included. Register online. CEUs will be available for an additional fee.
