ABOUT JEWISH WOMEN'S THEATER Jewish Women's Theater (JWT) is a non-profit arts group that reinvents Jewish theater by putting a contemporary spin on the centuries-old tradition of salons. Salons originated in France as a way to explore counterculture unacceptable to those in power. During the Age of Enlightenment, Jewish women embraced this conversation with gusto, hosting some of the most prominent music, literary and art salons of the day. Today JWT reinvents the Salon model to provide an outlet to debunk harmful and dangerous stereotypes of the Jewish people and to offer up a platform for Jews to see that which unifies rather than divides.
JWT aims to leave no Jewish story untold, while celebrating the truths that connect us all. Encouraging and supporting both lay and professional writers and artists, JWT inspires and performs original works that empower and educate individuals, create community and build cultural legacy. JWT seeks, develops and adapts stories celebrating a diverse Jewish population that can share the stage, regardless of gender, generation, degree of Jewish observance, ethnicity, cultural background, or sexual orientation.
Now looking ahead to their 10th season, JWT has created 25 original shows...and has performed to sell-out audiences in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and the Bay Area.
