GEAR Con is Portland's steampunk extravaganza! Indulge in our seventh annual weekend-length celebration of neo-Victoriana, weird science, and mad fantasy. 2017's highlights include:
** Vanity's Vaudeville Vixens burlesque revue, produced by and featuring Vanity Thorn. (Friday, June 30 at 8:30pm. This 18+ event may be attended without a GEAR Con pass for $15 at-door.)
** Victorian Martial Arts Symposium V, organized by Academia Duellatoria. Instruction in Bartitsu, cane fighting, pugilism, and other 19th C. combative arts for the lady or gentleman of action. (Saturday, July 1 & Sunday, July 2 late morning through afternoon.)
** GEAR Con's 2nd Official Costume & Cosplay Competition with a new category tied to our 2017 theme, "Steampunk With Character" competitors (and general attendees!) are encouraged to re-imagine classic & modern fictional characters through a steampunk lens. (Saturday, July 1 at 5:30pm pre-judging and walk-through times TBA.)
** A new showcase of mesmerizing, mystifying stage magic by the Historical Conjurer and guests. (Sunday, July 2 at 2pm. This event may be attended without a GEAR Con pass for $10 at-door.)
** New hands-on experiences in our Crafters' Lab including a stop-motion film-making clinic, cosplay foam crafting techniques for steampunkers, and an extended Scrapheap Challenge.
** Classic GEAR Con offerings like the Power Station early high-voltage/Tesla coil demonstration gallery, the Cabaret of Curiosities steampunk ball & musical showcase, the Salon of the Arts gallery & humanities venue, and our artisans' marketplace.
** Plus 100+ hours of presentations and workshops on art, science, literature, history, and professional creativity.
