Eclectic, artsy, earthy, urban and committed to a better future...that's Sustainable Ballard and the 14th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival. Join this group of Ballard neighbors on Sept 9th at Ballard Commons Park for creativity, passion and community-building while learning about daily practices and big steps toward more sustainable living.
This year's theme is "Certified Local" featuring a broad variety of ways that you can demonstrate your commitment to local, sustainable actions. The Sustainable Ballard festival is your passport to responsible local businesses, sustainability education and just plain fun. Press apple cider, pet farm animals, peek under the hood of an electric car, recharge in a cafe on the bus, test ride an electric bike, make your own bubble wand, compare solar cookers, buy a raffle ticket! Stop by a food cart and sample healthy local food, visit our Tea Garden for tea and desserts, stick your head in the hole of one of our carnival cut outs for a great photo op, enjoy music scattered throughout, or stop by Festival sponsor Built Green's booth and build a recycled birdhouse. Workshops cover topics such as acupuncture, biking and local food. These are just a few examples of all the games, activities and entertainment offered with a green twist.
As always, the fest is FREE to the public and perfect for families! With a membership of 1,500, Sustainable Ballard demonstrates that energy independence and self-reliance does not mean "going it alone." Attendees are participants and co-creators of the festival experience, and everyone in the community is welcome. While the mood is festive, the message is a serious one: to discover new possibilities and a deepened commitment to living more lightly on the Earth.
Ballard neighbors and friends are invited to connect with each other by volunteering at the festival. When we engage, we become part of creating the thriving community and lifestyle we want and need. Contact volunteer@sustainableballard.org.
