Info:
The Awareness Film Festival presents the US film premiere of 1.5 Stay Alive - Science Meets Music in the Caribbean. This movie is part informational, and part music video. In the film, popular regional musicians such as The Garifuna Collective, Queen Calypso Rose, and Percy "Scootie" Gabriel express their experiences with hurricanes, tropical storms, rising seas, and coastal erosion by composing and performing songs about climate change, and share their ideas of how to confront it. Intertwined throughout the film are insights by scientists and local climate experts expressing how a temperature rise of just 1.5 degrees Celsius could lead to irreversible damage to corals and ecosystems in the Caribbean.
With Hurricane Irma recently hitting the Caribbean recently, the film is very timely. The film visits Belize, Costa Rica, Trinidad + Tobago, Haiti, Honduras, Miami and Louisiana. Weather disasters in these regions serve as examples of how rising climate temperatures affect hurricanes, tropical storms and rising seas in their area, and additionally how these natural disasters caused by climate change affects the people and marine life of these regions.
1.5 Stay Alive won a Golden Sun award at the FICMA Environmental Film Festival in Barcelona. Distributed by Green Planet Films.
Lucian Segura, the German/Spanish director of the film will be attending in person.
