Info:
A program of heroic classics, including Beethoven's iconic "Eroica" Symphony, gets the Greenwich Village Orchestra season off to a rousing start. The concert also features Berlioz's colorful Roman Carnival Overture and rising Dutch star Tosca Opdam performing Sibelius' lushly romantic Violin Concerto. Music Director Barbara Yahr conducts. Seating is limited, advance reservations strongly advised.
Praised for her "enchanting musical personality", violinist Tosca Opdam has captivated audiences and critics alike with her musicality and poise. This season's highlights include a debut recital at Carnegie Hall, as well as recitals in the Netherlands, USA and Berlin. Recent engagements include a performance at the Liberation Day concert at the Amstel river, broadcast live on national television. Concerts have taken her all over Europe and North America to prominent concert stages and venues such as the Concertgebouw and the Music Theater in Amsterdam, Lincoln Center, Muziekcentrum Frits Philips (Eindhoven), and the National Arts Center in Ottawa. A passionate chamber musician and recitalist, Tosca has appeared at numerous music festivals in the Netherlands, USA, and Canada. She played and worked closely with renowned musicians such as Inon Barnatan, Liza Ferschtman, Sol Gabetta and Maxim Rysanov and has performed in master classes with eminent musicians such as Pamela Frank, Ilya Grubert, Theo Olof, Georgy Pauk, Candida Thompson, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Pinchas Zukerman.
