Baryshnikov Arts Center presents director/sound artist IONE and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) in music and conversation centered around experimental American composer Pauline Oliveros' unfinished, collaborative intermedia opera, The Nubian Word for Flowers. After Pauline Oliveros' death in November 2016, The Nubian Word for Flowers continued to be a source of inspiration, imagination, and retrospection. At BAC, semi-staged excerpts from the opera, performed by ICE under the direction of IONE, will be paired with ample opportunity for discussion around topics of creation and remembrance. This behind-the-scenes event offers a glimpse into the hybrid process of posthumous creation. The world premiere of The Nubian Word for Flowers will take place on November 30, 2017 at Roulette in Brooklyn.
