Award-winning Bay Area women's vocal ensemble Solstice will sing their eclectic mix of holiday songs performed live in the beautiful acoustic of Saint Teresa of Avila Church in San Francisco.
Their outside-the-box holiday program features gorgeous holiday music both old and newand never the kind you hear at the mall (well, almost never).
The afternoon's selections include the Spanish Renaissance "A un nino llorando al hielo", several Middle English Christmas texts set by 20th century composer Williametta Spencer, an original arrangement of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time is Here" from the Charlie Brown Christmas special, in addition to beautiful and unusual carols from around the world.
The concert will feature local composer Cortlandt Bender's arrangement of Gustav Holst's haunting carol "In the Bleak Midwinter, " which he created especially for Solstice in honor of their 20th year of a cappella music making.
Let the angelic voices of these seven women ease you into the peace and warmth of the season, and come away with joy in your heart and several copies of their holiday CD "Winter Solstice" in your shopping bag.
