On February 7, Russian-born American violinist Philippe Quint leads the program which relates Taneyev and Arensky to their more recognizable contemporary, Tchaikovsky.
Philipp Quint will discuss the relationship between the three composers, delve into the Russian music scene of the end of the 19th -beginning of the 20th century, and show rare photographs of the period.
As a part of the "Hidden Gems" series, "Taneyev and Arensky: In Tchaikovsky's Shadow" features the dark and grippingly dramatic Piano Quintet of Sergei Taneyev, once a music student of Tchaikovsky and a lifelong friend, as well as Anton Arenksy's Second String Quartet written as a memorial and tribute to the great Tchaikovsky.
Performers: Philippe Quint, violin Alexander Kobrin, piano Milena Pajaro van de Stadt, viola Zlatomir Fung, cello Brook Speltz, cello Ji in Yang, violin
Sergei Taneyev - Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 30 Anton Arensky - String Quartet No. 2 in A minor
