Info:
On January 31st, BWOPA/TILE will engage the West Oakland community to explore their thoughts and solutions on the hidden dangers of second-hand smoke in public housing during its listening session with Oakland City Councilmember Lynette McElhaney, at the West Oakland Senior Center from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
According to reports, second-hand smoke has been linked to a myriad of health issues including lung cancer, asthma, stroke and heart disease to name a few. Even worst, studies show that every year in this country, 70% of African-American children are exposed to second-hand smoke, which in turn, contributes to their difficulties with learning as well as problems with emotional development.
Given such dire statistics, the moderated listening session will give your constituents an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns about second-hand smoke in multi-unit dwellings.
BWOPA/TILE is hopeful that the information gathered from this meeting will bring us all one step closer to solving this public health crisis and proposed legislative policy to work for all.
