PUSH Dance Company (PUSH) announces the new program PUSHfest Spring, a mixed genre showcase of dance works by emerging choreographers and youth companies, April 27-28 at Buriel Clay Theater in San Francisco. PUSHfest Spring will feature dance workshops open to the public, a youth showcase, a work-in-progress showing of "Codelining" by Artistic Director Raissa Simpson and a world premiere by Robert Henry Johnson for PUSH. Guest companies include LV Dance Collective and Visceral Roots Dance Company performing alongside local youth groups PUSH Youth Program, Mini Mix'd, Handful Players, Rising Rhythm and The Village Dancers. These performances coincide with Bay Area Dance Week, April 27-May 6.
"PUSHfest Spring brings together professional companies and youth groups committed to dance training and cultural work in the Bay Area," says Simpson.
The week-long festival kicks off with fundraiser performances for the PUSH Youth Program at the African American Art & Culture Complex on April 27th. Then beginning on May 1st, PUSH will host free ballet, hip hop, modern dance and musical theater classes for beginning to advance dancers ages 4-14 years old. Also part of the festival will be a performance of the first installment of Codelining, launching #ReclaimSF, PUSH's 10th anniversary of serving communities amid San Francisco's affordability crisis by bringing dance programming to underserved areas, like the Fillmore/Western Addition, Bayview-Hunters Point, Tenderloin and The Mission.
