Seva Presents: Rising Appalachia with Dead Winter Carpenters and The Sam Chase & The Untraditional
Rising Appalachia brings to the stage a collection of sounds, stories, and songs steeped in tradition and a devotion to world culture. Intertwining a deep reverence for folk music and a passion for justice, they have made it their life's work to sing songs that speak to something ancient yet surging with relevance. Whether playing at Red Rocks or in rail cars, at Italian street fairs or to Bulgarian herbalists, this fiercely independent band has blazed a unique and colorful path across the globe. 11 years into their movement, Rising Appalachia believes that the roots of all these old songs are vital to our ever evolving soundscape.
Dead Winter Carpenter's have a ground-breaking sound that blends Americana roots-rock with a tinge of straightforward 'tell-it-like-it-is' alternative country, with an edge that is as hard-hitting as it is whimsical. Foot-stomping original tunes blended with the band's onstage presence highlighted by the vocal melodies and five part harmonies, ferocious fluidity of the fiddle, deep pounding thump and thud of the upright bass, country ramblings of the telecaster and acoustic guitars, and the driving drums all meld together to create an experience that is sure leave you wanting more.
Hailing from the hills of San Francisco, Sam and his band whom he lovingly refers to as The Untraditional, blends rock n roll and folk music while maintaining the sensibilities and attitudes of growing up on a healthy diet of punk rock. This band of berserkers has performed at festivals such as Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, High Sierra Music Festival, and Kate Wolf Music Festival. They are the heroes we need in these desperate times.
