Richard Saunders grew up on Long Island. He attended UC Berkeley, where he received a BA in history, built a washtub bass and started a musical career as a bassist. He studied music composition, harmony and counterpoint from 1968 to 1970 when he bought his first upright bass. He has played and recorded with Country Joe and the Fish, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Jessica Williams, Cat Anderson, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, various TV shows and ads, and movie scores. He worked with Klez-X (also known as San Francisco Klezmer Experience) and is currently on the faculty of the San Francisco Community Music Center.
Sheldon Brown is a composer and woodwind multi-instrumentalist. He leads the Sheldon Brown Group, which performs his own compositions, and appeared as part of the San Francisco Jazz Festival's Summer in the City series, and the Sheldon Brown Quintet, which performs the music of Herbie Nichols and Distant Intervals. He has performed internationally and with the San Francisco Klezmer Experience. He was part of the Bay Area klezmer revival ensemble The Klezmorim.
Jeanette Lewicki, Yiddish singer and accordionist, was born in California and has pursued Yiddish song and klezmer music around the world. She sings and plays with the San Francisco Klezmer Experience and has produced numerous CDs. She has coached Michael Tilson Thomas in Yiddish, sung at hundreds of weddings and played in the Yiddish theatre in New York and San Francisco.
