Info:
Electric violinist meets Poet - bow meets pen! Sparks fly and what happens next is anyone's guess. Electric violinist/composer Mary Lou Newmark and Poet/author Brendan Constantine present an encore performance of their signature blend of original music and poetry on stage at Art Share LA on Wednesday December 5 at 7:30 p.m. In "Trading Storms," Mary Lou and Brendan perform their own compositions as well as several new works in collaboration.
Mary Lou is truly an original voice as a composer and a performer on the five-string electric violin. Her music moves across genres to encounter wild birds, coyotes, beats, poetic verse, and noisy toys. "Room to Breathe," Mary Lou's latest CD, has appeared on weekly Top 30 charts at public radio and college radio stations from Alaska to New York.
Brendan is one of Southern California's most recognized poets. His work has appeared in many of the nation's literary standards including the Best American Poetry 2018. A popular performer, he has presented his work to audiences throughout the United States and Europe and has also appeared on NPR's All Things Considered, KPFK's Poetry Cafe, and numerous podcasts. Brendan currently teaches creative writing at the Windward School.
About his collaboration with Mary Lou, Brendan notes, "This is not going to be poems with accompaniment. It is, we think, a unique dialogue between systems. 'Weather systems,' if you will."
Art Share LA is located in the heart of the Arts District (DTLA) on the corner of 4th Place and Hewitt Street. The main entrance is on Hewitt Street and free EVENT parking is located across the street-look for the Aztec calendar.
