Travel to the ancient Celtic world of druids, bards, misty mountains, faeries and wild green men with the trio Celtic Sands. Enjoy the lively sounds of the harp, fiddles, guitar, piano, Irish whistle, wooden flute and Irish frame drum. Don't miss the fun and magic!
Founding member Lara Garner is both a folk and classical musician. She plays Celtic harp, tin whistle, Irish flute, piano, recorder and bodhran. Lara has played the major piano chamber music repertoire and is the founding member of the Amethyst Trio, Trio Con Spirito and Klezmerama. She writes her own music and taught herself to play the harp after having dreams in which she heard and saw herself playing the harp. She owns four, including a custom-made double-strung harp.
Alina Polonskaya is an accomplished classical violinist. Her passion for fiddling has led her to pursue different genres of folk music, including the eclectic folk/rock/traditional Irish mix of Celtic Sands. She brings a full and luscious tone to the sound of the group, adding intricate improvisation and beautiful harmonies.
Local fiddle legend and multi-instrumentalist Michael Mullen adds his Scottish fiddling expertise and hot Celtic Irish playing to the group. Known for whirlwind technical feats and intricate rock improvs, he brings vibrancy and energy to traditional Celtic music. Michael also plays octave mandolin, guitar and viola, and sings. He plays off and on with the local Celtic band Tempest, and is seen regularly at Scottish games and festivals in his Trio for One show.
The concert includes a hot buffet lunch.
