Complete with fireworks over the bay and live music, the Berkeley Marina hosts one of the best 4th of July parties from noon until 10PM with all kinds of free family fun in an alcohol-free environment.
There's live entertainment from noon until 9:30PM so come dance at the main stage to Latin funk band Downtown Rhythm (7:30-9:30PM) rockin' roller Groovy Judy (5:15-7:15PM) Improv-o-linist Kippy Marks (3:15-5:00PM) the Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble (1:30-3:00) and Sadzamoto (12:00-1:15PM) playing Afro-Pop.
Food Court Arena has In Steel (2:00-6:00), Alex Yaskin 'Kombring' (1:00PM) the Rev. Rabia Duo (3:00PM) Sean Lee: A One-Man Banjo (6:00PM) the Merrie Mary Show (2:00+4:00) and Frisco Fred (5:00+7:00) with juggling, magic and crazy stunts. Tucked around the marina there's an Afro Cuban Drumming Circle, face painters, and balloon twisters.
Free photo booth with costumes are waiting for you to take your holiday close up. Berkeley Canoe Racing Club gives free Dragon Boat rides 12-5PM, bring a kite and let it fly over the northern area of the marina in Cesar Chavez Kite Park.
Live pony rides, carnival rides, an inflatable bounce area, mini-train rides, a giant wavy slide, and walk-on-water bubble balls. Get your face painted, a henna tattoo, or a balloon animal. Hand made and international craft vendors make a bit of shopping therapy available.
The day culminates in the grand fireworks over the water near the end of the Berkeley Pier at 9:35PM, presented by the City of Berkeley. Viewing is best along Frontage Drive south of the Pier.
Parking is $20 cars/$50 large vehicles, cash only, for the day or ride your bike over the Berkeley bicycle overpass and use the free valet parking near Adventure Playground.
