The Oakland Peace Center's first end-of-summer "Mind + Body Fun-raiser" kicks off a multi-year, multi-million dollar effort to renovate the historic facilities that house 40 peace organizations. Featuring several events that connect body and soul, we hope to engage with and raise awareness about our space and the impactful work that we do for our neighbors and community at large as a space for proponents of equity, dignity, hope, and social justice.
We begin at 10am with Intro to Self-Defense brought to you by IMPACT Bay Area. Music starts after that and builds to the "centerPEACE" of our day, a 2-hour ZUMBATHON(R). In the break, we are proud to host the debut of Every Man, Woman and Child, a global dance party focused on human rights. At 2pm we'll finish the afternoon with a relaxing meditation session facilitated by Seeds of Awareness.
Feel free to join any time. Bring a water bottle and wear fitness shoes for the Zumbathon. Bring a lunch if you with, or purchase snacks. Bring a towel, mat or meditation cushion for the meditation session. OPC and other merchandise will be available.
Get tickets on Eventbrite or at the door-early bird tickets are just $15 and suggested door donation is $25-but please give what you can to support the vision of this place of justice and joy. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Donations to our renovation fund can also be made on our website through the Action Network.
The ZUMBATHON(R) is a non-stop dance party from 11:30-1:30 led by top local instructors to get your heart healthy and your spirit soaring! Zumba(R) is an easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance fitness party with international music and moves. No dance experience is necessary to participate, all age groups are welcome.
Dance as much or as little as feels good, enjoy the music and energy and support PEACE in Oakland! The OPC raises the vibration of our urban community. Let's get moving together and "raise the roof!"
