Info:
Stand up comedy and book reading all in one! Join Bay Area comedian Nina G, author of the newly released Stutterer Interrupted: The Comedian Who Almost Didn't Happen for an evening of comedy, stories, and insights. Nina will talk about her journey to overcome internalized stigma related to her feelings about stuttering to becoming, at the time she started, the world's only female stuttering stand up comedian. From childhood experiences growing up in an Italian-American family, brushes with famous comedians to cringe-worthy interactions with people who didn't get stuttering. It's all in Nina's book!
Nina G was the only woman who stuttered in the stand-up comedy world when she started nine years ago. She co-produces the Comedians with Disabilities Act, a national touring comedy show featuring exclusively comedians with disabilities. She also produces the first compilation album to feature Disabled Comedy Only. Nina's brand of comedy reflects the experiences of many with disabilities. She tours the country as a conference keynote speaker including at a TEDx talk at San Jose State University. She lives in Oakland and performs all over the country and weekly in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In her book Stutterer Interrupted: The Comedian Who Almost Didn't Happen (She Writes Press, August 6, 2019), Nina challenges the status quo of how people who stutter are perceived onstage and off. Additionally, she substitutes the negative emotions of shame, denial and isolation with positive ones of pride, acceptance and community. And, despite learning disabilities, she has a doctorate and is now working with students with disabilities to access their education.
