Info:
This all-Russian program built around stories and Death begins with selections from Prokofiev's lively and humorous Love for Three Oranges, conducted by Eric Mahl. Music Director Barbara Yahr leads Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death features bass Christian Zaremba, who also performs with the Metropolitan Opera this season, as Death in four different guises. The concert concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, full of lush, romantic stories. Mingle with the musicians at the reception afterwards.
Whether "stealing the evening ... as the dancing master" (The Washington Post) or "chilling in espousing the theories of Negro management" (Opera News), French-American bass Christian Zaremba is intent on leaving a strong impression each time he performs. Last season he performed at The Metropolitan Opera in Gianni Schicchi and Tosca, with the Austin Opera as the French General in Silent Night and with the Minnesota Opera as Mountain Landis in the world premiere of The Fix by Joel Puckett. He debuted with The Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Nouribad in Les pecheurs des perles and reprised his Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
