It is Holiday Shorts time! Creatures of Impulse, the Bay Area's award-winning teen improv troupe, is celebrating its 12th season with their perennial fan-favorite Holiday Shorts: A Long Winter's Tale at the Firehouse Arts Center Theater in downtown Pleasanton. The seasonally-themed live improv shows run December 5th and 6th at 7:30 p.m., with a Preview Performance on December 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
How it works, according to Mark Duncanson, COI Director and Recreation Coordinator with the City of Pleasanton: "Holiday Shorts gives the audience a chance to see COI perform short-form and long-form improv. The short-form portion is a fast-paced set of short games and scenes like 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' The audience then votes on which scene or game's content gets performed as a completely improvised twenty to thirty minute Holiday play in the second half of the show. Each show is totally different!"
Thirteen of COI's 25 members will perform, hailing from all around the Tri-Valley. The cast's ages range from 14 to 18, and their high schools include Foothill and Amador Valley in Pleasanton, and the Athenian School in Danville.
COI has performed in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. Seasoned professional adult improvisers from The Un-Scripted Theater Company and Bay Area Theater Sports are saying these aren't just good high school improvisers these are great improvisers... period. Creatures of Impulse's latest win came this past September at the San Francisco Improv Festival where they won "Best of Fest" for their performance of their improvised teen musical Tri-Valley High: The Musical. COI was also honored to be the only teen improv troupe to perform at the West Coast Musical Improv Festival in San Francisco this past summer.
PREVIEW SHOW: Tuesday, December 3rd, 7:30 p.m., $2.00 cash at the door (no pre-sales).
