Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF announces the return of in-person performances for its annual holiday show, Mark Foehringer's Nutcracker Sweets, December 4-19, Cowell Theater, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. This marks the 13th season of the production.
Mark Foehringer's Nutcracker Sweets is a unique 50-minute version of the Nutcracker specifically designed for families with young children. The production features a live 9-piece chamber orchestra with Keisuke Nakagoshi as the pit conductor, Carlos Venturo as Drosselmeyer, Vincent Chavez as the Nephew/Nutcracker and Megan Kurashige as Clara. The Tchaikovsky score was re-orchestrated by the late Maestro Michael Morgan of Oakland Symphony Orchestra set design by Peter Crompton costume design by Richard Battle and production and projection design by Frederic O. Boulay.
NEW THIS YEAR: Brian Fisher who performed the role of Drosselmeyer for many years is stepping down from performing and will serve as the production's Artistic Associate and Rehearsal Director. Fisher has served as choreography assistant and rehearsal director for 20 of Foehringer's works. He danced for ODC/Dance San Francisco as well as others. He performed on Broadway in La Cage Aux Folles and toured nationally with The Music Man and The Wizard of Oz Live.
