The Boston-based Balourdet Quartet received the Grand Prize at the 2021 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition the top prize awarded in the 2021 Premio Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia, Italy and the Gold Medal at the 2020 Fischoff Competition. Their program opens with Haydn's signature humor and tone painting in The Bird, and the modern-day Hungarian bard Kurtag ponders the cycle of life in tribute to musicians meaningful to him, none more so than Schubert in Six Moments Musicaux. Newport Classical presents its nine-concert Chamber Series from September 2023 to June 2024 at its home venue, Newport Classical Recital Hall, bringing timeless music for today to Newport year round.
