Sea Change An Exhibition of Sculpture by Annette Goodfriend On view at Monterey Museum of Art at 559 Pacific Street Monterey, CA 93940
April 3 - June 8, 2025. Thursday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sea Change features work by Northern California artist Annette Goodfriend. Straddling the line between art and science, Goodfriend crafts dream-like representations of the natural world. Using varied media, ranging from steel, aluminum, plaster, epoxy, and rubber, Goodfriend's sculpture examines the changes human activity has wrought upon the world, and the need to better care for all the planet's creatures. Annette Goodfriend creates sculptures that explore human anatomy, hybridized or contrasted with non-human animal or plant forms. Goodfriend's works depict an oceanic world in retreat from climate change, under scientific scrutiny: starfish growing fingers to crawl their way out of warming waters, sea life held in anthropomorphic grips, a hybridized human growing a spine of giant sea kelp. Goodfriend's work explores human interdependence with our oceans and seas, as a changes threaten this fragile ecosystem.
