Join the San Jose Wind Symphony in "For Ed," a heartfelt tribute concert honoring the remarkable 20-year legacy of Dr. Edward C. Harris, who served as music and artistic director of the San Jose Wind Symphony until his retirement in 2022. Under the direction of Dr. David Vickerman, the SJWS will perform a program that reflects Dr. Harris's profound impact on the ensemble and its audiences. The concert features some of Ed's favorite works and in honor of Ed's instrument, features Steve Sanchez, clarinetist, performing Oscar Navarro's II Concerto. This concerto for Clarinet and Wind Band is a one-movement work with three main sections, characterized by its rich orchestration and exploitation of the clarinet's technical capabilities.
Dr. Edward C. Harris, Music and Artistic Director Emeritus Under the leadership of Dr. Harris, SJWS established itself as one of California's premier concert bands with performances at the 2009 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference, the California Music Educators Association Conference, as well as international and regional concert tours. Dr. Harris served for many years as Director of Bands at San Jose State University. He received his Doctor of Arts degree in conducting and clarinet performance from the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied under Eugene Corporon.
Steve Sanchez, a San Francisco native, is currently 2nd clarinet of the Monterey Symphony Orchestra. Steve has performed nationally with the orchestra of the San Francisco Opera and Ballet, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra? and internationally with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra
