The Strawberry Moon marks the start of the strawberry harvest, a time when the sweetness of summer begins to make itself known. This full moon rises over warm summer nights, casting a gentle light that invites us to slow down and savor the season. As we hike beneath the Strawberry Moon, the air is filled with the scents of fresh earth and growing fruit.
This moon reminds us to enjoy life’s sweetness—to gather with friends, embrace the warmth of summer, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. The night will be filled with soft breezes and moonlit paths, perfect for reflecting on the beauty of nature’s cycles.
About the Trail: We’re hiking on an actual trail with hills! Yes, right here in Houston! This is not a paved path, which makes it interesting when you hike back at night, in the dark! 1. Distance: 3-4 miles 2. Pace: You must be able to hike about 22 minute miles. We’ll assess the speed
What to Bring: 1. Red Light Headlamp/Flashlight: Using a red light will help preserve your night vision, keep the animals calmer, and reduce shadows. You can find one at Walmart or Academy for cheap! 2. Water: Stay hydrated before, during, and after the hike. Bring water for the hike—carrying it in a backpack is way more comfortable than by hand. 3. Sturdy Shoes: These are dirt trails, and it’s night, so leave the platforms and flip-flops at home. We’ll check shoes before the hike, and inappropriate footwear will need to sit this one out. 4. No Dogs: As much as we love our furry friends, coyotes in the area pose a risk to pets. We’ll be enforcing a no-dog policy. 5. Adults Only: This is an adult social club event, and our night hike is not suitable for kids.
Leave No Trace: Let’s keep the trails beautiful! Please carry out any trash you bring and, if you’re feeling helpful, grab a shopping bag and pick up litter along the way.
Where to Meet: NOTE: Arrive with some time to find parking.
Fees: The hike is free, but there is a $2 parking fee. (Bring some money if you will join us for Dinner afterwards)
Dog-Friendly: No, sorry, many events are dog-friendly, but not this time. There are Coyotes!
After the Hike: Dinner at Canyon Creek Let’s grab some dinner or drinks from Canyon Creek just down the street. Park on the street over there and order at the counter. (RSVP separately)
