Both artists in this exhibition develop a quiet tension in their work by presenting images of stillness on the verge of movement. Their minimal forms, simultaneously anchored and weightless, hover and float in a state of precarious balance, softly breathing.
Compelled by a primary obsession with natural phenomena, the two artists create a conversation that speaks to and honors earth's regenerative power.

Arminee Chahbazian invests herself in deep observations of the natural world and creates work that evokes a quiet contemplation of our place in it. She has been consistently engaged in this practice for the past 40 years after earning her MFA from Yale University and her BA from Scripps College. Born and raised in Colorado, she has lived in the woods of Northern California for three decades, following influential years living and working in rural France and along the East Coast.

Claudia Tennyson studied photography as an undergraduate at UC Santa Cruz and earned her MFA in textiles and sculpture from the California College of the Arts. Her work with found objects and tactile materials, as well as a desire to connect directly with an audience, led her to create a series of interactive public art projects in the US and in Europe. In recent years, her art practice is more introspective, with an interest in pared-down expression in the form of drawings in ink on paper.
