EIGHT/MOVES, a dance company founded by Artistic Director Mia J. Chong, announces its highly anticipated Season 2, returning to ODC Theater in San Francisco in September 2025. Following an electrifying debut season, Season 2 expands the company's bold mission to challenge artistic norms, amplify marginalized voices, and explore urgent social issues through deeply collaborative, genre-defying work.
The 2025 program features three works:
Wasteland - choreographed by Chong, this world premiere is a multi-disciplinary meditation on pollution, overconsumption, and cultural decay. Created in collaboration with artists across poetry, set design, and costuming, the work asks: Are we living in a kind of cultural wasteland? What happens when even our identities and our agency feel disposable?
THE END - a world premiere duet by acclaimed choreographer Tsai-Hsi Hung, whose embodied, athletic movement language pushes dancers and audiences alike. Performed by Lani Yamanaka and Doug Gillespie, THE END introduces Bay Area audiences to a choreographer whose distinctive physicality is both rigorous and mesmerizing.
Steam - a restaged and expanded version of the ensemble work co-choreographed by Chong and her longtime collaborator KT Nelson, exploring how climate change impacts human behavior. Originally created during Season 1, Chong shares, "Steam was key to realizing this company's vision. I've always wanted to build something that inspires action and reflection beyond performance, and KT-my close mentor, friend, and a passionate climate advocate-is the ideal partner."
Performances will take place at ODC Theater at 3153 17th St. in San Francisco on Friday, September 12 at 7:30 P.M., Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 P.M., and Sunday, September 14 at 2:00 P.M. Tickets, $25-60, can be purchased at eightmoves.org/season2.
