ABOUT KURBASY A captivating force in Ukraine's arts scene, Kurbasy transforms folk songs, lullabies, and legends into mesmerizing multimedia experiences. With haunting harmonies, evocative instrumentation, and dreamlike visuals, their performances bridge the ancient and the modern. Their latest work, Songs of the Ukrainian Forest, channels cultural memory into affirmations of resilience, love, and resistance in the face of war.
ABOUT KITKA Inspired by the traditional vocal arts of Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Kitka has earned international acclaim for its distinctive sound and adventurous collaborations, from Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares to Meredith Monk. Now celebrating its 45th season, Kitka has grown from a grassroots women's chorus into an award-winning touring ensemble, renowned for its mastery of regional vocal styles and innovative explorations in new music for women's voices.
Kitka will open the concert with a set of Ukrainian polyphonic songs, followed by Kurbasy's dramatic song cycle featuring folk traditions from across Ukraine. "We want to affirm our loud and clear freedom, our love for our country and our people," says Oneschak. "We want to show our independence and strength," adds Rybka-Parhomenko.
The evening culminates in a powerful joint performance-Ukrainian and American voices united in solidarity, singing out for democracy, peace, and justice.
