  Have a sock or sweater that's falling apart? Don't throw it away! In this one-day workshop, students will learn accessible, hands-on techniques to repair and refresh worn textiles. We'll begin with an introduction to visible mending, looking at how simple stitches can both strengthen fabric and add character. The class will focus on two foundational methods: darning holes and hand-sewing patches, both useful for repairing woven fabrics and knits. Students will have ample time to practice each technique on their own garments, with guidance and troubleshooting along the way. For those with prior sewing experience, sewing machines will also be available for machine mending. By the end of class, participants will have a garment-in-progress and the skills to continue mending at home.

Bring to class:
A few items you'd like to mend (socks, sweaters, jeans, shirts, etc.) so you have options during class. All other basic materials provided optional notions welcome.

Prerequisite:
None. Students must be 18+ years or older at the start of the class.

Instructor Bio:?
Ingrid Henderson is a Berkeley-based textile artist whose work explores the intersections of craft, fashion, and fine art. She often works with hand-dyed fabrics and secondhand garments, creating layered pieces that explore themes of belonging and transformation. Ingrid combines secondhand garments, hand-dyed textiles, and innovative techniques to create pieces that challenge traditional notions of craft and fashion. With upcoming shows in both fine art and fashion, her work continues to push boundaries, blending the two disciplines to provoke thought and dialogue. Ingrid has taught workshops and classes with both children and adults, bringing an emphasis on accessibility and play to her teaching practice. She graduated cum laude with honors from Wellesley College and holds an MFA from California College of the Arts.
