The Albany Consort opens its 52nd season with birth and birthday celebrations. It's a family-run enterprise - harpsichordist Jonathan Salzedo, recorder/organist Marion Rubinstein, and their daughter violinist Laura Jeannin. This concert celebrates Laura's second daughter, now just over a year old, and Jonathan's birthday.
The group calls on the large community of Bay Area musicians commonly referred to as The Freeway Philharmonic. More than 600 musicians have performed with the group in as many concerts. For this concert, 20 musicians, including a chamber orchestra, soloists and a small chorus comprise the group. Depending on the music, the group can be as few as two or as many as 70.
For this celebration, the group performs two favorites - Bach's Triple Concerto for flute, violin and harpsichord, and Telemann's Double Concerto for recorder and flute. Also on the program is a new work commissioned from Berkeley composer Sheli Nan - The House Has Settled Into Dreams. And finally the exquisitely beautiful Passacaille from Lully's opera Armide, featuring talented soprano Talia Young-Skeen.
Tickets range in price from $25 to $95, or you can pay what you like! Details including ticketing can be found at www.albanyconsort.com.
