Info:
Astonishingly versatile and virtuosic bassist and composer Edgar Meyer returns to San Francisco Performances with the Dover Quartet-the perfect match for his clever programming that spans multiple genres, often springing from clever partnerships. "I learn a lot from collaboration," he told Nashville Musicians magazine. Calgary Herald enthused, "The power of the Dover Quartet to communicate a work with awesome sophistication borders on the spiritual."
In demand as both a performer and a composer, Edgar Meyer has formed a role in the music world unlike any other. Hailed by The New Yorker as "...the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively un-chronicled history of his instrument," Mr. Meyer's unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to the fore, where he is appreciated by a vast, varied audience. His uniqueness in the field was recognized by a MacArthur Award in 2002.
Named one of the greatest string quartets of the last 100 years by BBC Music Magazine and "the next Guarneri Quartet" by the Chicago Tribune, the two-time Grammy(R)-nominated Dover Quartet is one of the world's most in-demand chamber ensembles. The group's awards include a stunning sweep of all prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand and first prizes at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition.
