This exhibition of work by two accomplished local artists distills the essence of the natural world through bold and semi-abstract interpretations of trees, lichens, birds' nests, and more. With fluid lines and vivid colors, each work sparkles with the beauty of its subject matter seen through the artist's eye. The exhibition is a deep immersion into the energies and strategies of the natural world, in all their marvelous complexity.
Alina Nuebel brings a scientist's eye to the flora and fauna of Sonoma County, depicting the very specific and complex structure of something seemingly simple like a bird's nest, or a particular tree lichen. Frances McCormac shows us, in paint, the strong currents of energy that run through all living things and burst out to be visible in dense environments ranging from woodlands to our own gardens.
Seen together, the work of these two artists is filled with harmony, cross-references, and shared spirit although their training, techniques, and life experiences have been very different.
Alina Nuebel is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work straddles biology and art. Alina's creative practice has included multiple large-scale mural projects and workshops through SSU, the Sonoma Community Center and Pepperwood Preserve.
Frances McCormack holds an MFA from UC Berkeley and was a long-time faculty member of the SF Art Institute. Her work was shown in a major retrospective at the diRosa Center in 2023.
"Two Painters in the Garden" is the perfect show to welcome and celebrate spring in the Sonoma Valley.
