A majority of businesses today understand the need to bring information about their customer into their development process. Yet, the many methods to get this data are sometimes regarded with fear and confusion. In this presentation, Steve will discuss the fundamentals of learning about customers, including "watching customers," "talking to customers," and "understanding their culture." Attendees will be given ideas on how to maximize the insights from their customer and how to better develop their overall efforts in gathering customer information.
Steve Portigal is a consultant who uses ethnography and other qualitative methods to help his clients in two key ways: 1) to discover new insights about how their customers work/play/shop/entertain and otherwise live their lives around products and services, and 2) to apply those insights to the design of future products and services. His clients include Sony, Hewlett-Packard, General Mills, France Telecom, and Unilever.
