The answer is getting close to yes. At the same time, many new developments in the electronic imaging industry are exciting and downright amazing. Others, unfortunately, may be cause for alarm.
PATCA's presenter at the July dinner meeting is Perry West of Automated Vision Systems, Inc. West will share a non-technical overview of nine new applications for electronic imaging that promise to make remarkable changes in our daily lives.
West has spent the last 30 years acquiring and analyzing images for industrial automation, and has been on the forefront of a field known as "machine vision." The technology used in this field is usually developed for a specific purpose, but once created, these electronic imaging tools quickly progress into other disciplines.
This rapid growth has brought both positive and negative effects. For example, government-funded technical algorithms that came out of military and medical applications have since been applied in the entertainment industry and are now commonly used in television cameras.
On the downside: You are being watched. Not only by security cameras in public places, but inside your own domain, as well. Your actions on the Internet can be followed and tracked, and your behavior is often analyzed.
Attendees will learn that the potential for abuse is greatest in applications where intelligence is applied to an image by computer processes. Join us on July 9 and find out how new electronic imaging technology will affect your work, play, travel and health.
