Info:
Our speaker (for July) is Cliff Federspiel, President and CTO of Federspiel Controls (www.federspielcontrols.com) in El Cerrito, California. His firm helps data centers and large buildings save energy with energy management solutions to reduce cooling and heating costs using advanced control software and state-of-the-art wireless mesh network sensors.
Dr. Federspiel has spent his career in the clean tech field, researching the intersection of control engineering and artificial intelligence and applying that research to energy management while earning his PhD at MIT, and subsequently working for Johnson Controls and then UC Berkeley before founding his own company, which was a finalist in the 'Smart Power' category in the 2007 California Clean Tech Open.
He will talk about starting a company in an industry dominated by giants like Emerson, Honeywell and IBM, and how he has been able to maintain a competitive advantage and keep the company capital-efficient, which has become critical given the current economic conditions.
Dr. Federspiel has a PhD from MIT and a BSME from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has written more than 50 papers on the subjects of HVAC control, indoor air quality, and energy management and has numerous patents.
