Keynote Speakers

Rev. Dr. Bernard Lafayette is a longtime civil rights activist and authority on nonviolent social change. He co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in 1960, and he was a core leader of the civil rights movement. He worked directly with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Rev. John Dear, SJ is a Jesuit Priest, peace activist, organizer, lecturer, retreat leader, and author/editor of 20 books on peace and nonviolence. Archbishop Desmond Tutu nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.

Youth Leadership Summit
It's no secret that violence plagues our schools - through gang violence, gossip, cliques and cyber-bullying. The Youth Leadership Summit is designed for high school youth and student advisors who want to help change this culture in our schools. Participants will explore ways they have personally been affected by campus violence and will learn about opportunities to become agents of change. Students are encouraged to enroll in small groups, along with a teacher or counselor.
