ODC School and ODC Theater are pleased to present "Pilot Light," featuring new work by six emerging choreographers. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of ODC's Pilot Program, a Do-It-Yourself mentorship program that has spawned hundreds of talented young choreographers.
The concert will feature an eclectic roster of post-modern and contemporary movement styles, music, and motifs. Participants include a mixture of freelance choreographers, international artists, longtime Bay Area fixtures, and newcomers. The choreographers are: Nathan Cottam, Amy Foley, Daria Kaufman, Elizabeth McSurdy, Raisa Punkki, and Charles Slender. These six artists have the unique stance of being the only Pilot group to present work in the brand new, state-of-the-art ODC Theater.
The ODC Pilot Program is a renowned mentorship and performance opportunity for up and coming choreographers. The school received a record 70 applicants this round, and six were chosen to be immersed in an intimate 11-week session where they are mentored in choreography and aspects of self-production including promotion, publicity, marketing and technical theater production. The emphasis on collective spirit and the philosophy of "by our own bootstraps" creates artistic alliances and a strong support system. Since its inception in 1990, Pilot has launched the careers of numerous leading choreographers in the Bay Area.
