THIS EVENT IS FOR THE ROLLER DISCO PARTY AFTER THE SHOWING OF THE MOVIE
Once again it's time to break out with your funky roller disco skates and wardrobe and head for the CellSpace for the final fundraiser for the Black Rock Roller Disco Burning Man theme camp of 2011.
On Friday, July 15, the 32nd anniversary of the creation of the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol, we will be celebrating the magical era of outdoor roller skating at the Roxie Theater and later at the CellSpace in San Francisco with a fantastic night of roller disco delight!!!
The summer of 1979 was the magical era of Roller Disco!!!!! There were 20,000+ skaters rolling through Golden Gate Park every Sunday. The GodFather of Skate was then the leader of the Golden Gate Skate Park Patrol with shiny red and yellow jackets, 4 teams of skaters and we kept the park safe for everyone. Roller Disco was all the rage and we are planning an event that will have you reliving the "good 'ol days of the roller disco experience.
The Roxy Theater will be showing the movie " SkateTown USA". This was the big Hollywood blockbuster of the day and the beginning of the huge worldwide push for roller disco. There are stars like Scott Baio from "Happy Days", Flip Wilson of the Flip Wilson Show, Patrick "Dirty Dancing" Swayze, Maureen "Marsha Brady" McCormick, Ruth "Laugh In" Buzzi and Dorothy "Playmate of the Year 1980" Stratten. I'd call that a star-studded cast!!!
The movie will be show at 7PM and again at 9PM.
We're celebrating by following the movie with a night of roller disco at the CellSpace, 2050 Bryant St. in San Francisco. The party starts at 9PM and we roll until 2AM. You must be 21 and older to attend the skate party. The cost is $10 to enter. $5 if you attend the movie and $5 for skate rentals.
This will be a great night for skating. Please come to the CellSpace in your best roller disco costumes and garb. We're going to have a funky good time.
