As part of our Media Archeology Festival, Aurora Picture Show and IKEA Houston host a stop-motion animation workshop for the family where we will make animations inspired by vintage video games. Come have a Swedish meatball and make animations from 12 to 3PM.
The stop-animation workshop will teach children a form of animation in which still photographs are filmed and manipulated in ways that make them appear to move on their own. Youth will be able to create their short films using IKEA soft toys and finger puppets, pages from the new 2012 IKEA catalog and their own drawings. IKEA and Aurora Picture Show volunteers will help participants create their story and local filmmakers will help bring them to life. The final films will be screened in the IKEA Houston restaurant and shared via www.ikeahouston.com
Spaces for these workshops are limited and interested parties are advised to sign up in advance. If you would like to participate, please visit www.ikeahouston.com to RSVP.
IKEA Houston is located on I-10 near Antoine. The 300,000-square-foot IKEA Houston store originally opened in November 1992 and employs approximately 300 coworkers. In addition to 10,000 exclusively designed items, IKEA Houston showcases 54 room-settings, 18 kitchens, three complete home interiors under 500 square feet, a supervised children’s play area, and a 350-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a Children’s IKEA area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store.
