Info:
Barefoot Chamber Concerts presents something entirely different in a new venue: against the backdrop of the sunset view from the lovely Hillside Swedenborgian Church in El Cerrito, Bay Area icon Shira Kammen and a fabulous new group, In Bocca al Lupo, will play "Sun, Moon and Stars", a program of medieval and eclectic music with magic.
Barefoot Chamber Concerts ("an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality" - San Francisco Classical Voice) presents music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events. Our concerts start at 6 on Fridays and last no more than 75 minutes. Kids are welcome if quiet, and admission under 18 is free. Light refreshments are available before, during, and after the concert. There will be ample time to move on to other evening entertainments.
The always delightful and indefinable Bay Area native Shira Kammen has been entertaining audiences throughout the world for decades as a string player, singer, and all around creative genius. In Bocca al Lupo is the newest of her many ensembles (see ShiraKammen.com) but it promises to be an evening of magic. Allison Zelles (voice and harp), Marsha Genensky (voice), Peter Maund (percussion), and Susan Rode Morris (voice), all favorites of the Bay Area early music scene, will perform music inspired by the sun, moon and stars, including compositions by Johannes Cicconia and Guillaume Dufay, with texts of Francis of Assisi, the Carmina Burana, as well as a modern poet or two. Additional wonder will be added by the presence of master magician Kit Higginson who will perform the Ancient Mystery of the Rings.
Barefoot has chosen to present this concert in the lovely Hillside Swedenborgian Church, a wooden room with a great acoustic and an unequalled view of the bay.
The program starts at 6, sunset will be at 6.50. A special evening in all senses.
