Info:
DANB has been collaborating with AOTO (Art of the Olympians) for four years creating work inspired by the art of Olympic athletes.
FIRE & ICE blasts onto the stage with beauty and drama. Guest artists include Composer In Residence Stella Sung, Brazilian choreographer Cristin Helena and pianist Kevin Sharpe, winner of the International Bach Competition.
AND THEN WE HAVE THE OLYMPIANS!
FIRE & ICE is inspired by two of the Olympics greatest headliners - Gold Medalists Bob Beamon and Peggy Fleming. Bob Beamon won the Gold Medal in 1968 for the "perfect jump" His world record jump is considered one of the great moments in Olympic history. His jump in 1968 was 21 3/4" further than anyone prior and lasted 23 years.
As one fan stated, "Beamon's long been one of my major heros! What a stupendous feat at the 68 Olympics - perhaps never equaled shattering of the long jump world record."
Mr. Beamon will be in Gainesville for FIRE & ICE, October 14th. A new DANB work, "Bob's Ties" will be premiered and feature some of his amazingly detailed graphic works. An accomplished percussionist, he will also appear as a performer during the performance. We can hardly wait!
Peggy Fleming won the Gold Medal in 1968 in figure skating. This gracious lady was 19 when she won the gold and has since had an inspiring career in TV, as a spokesperson and as an advocate for breast cancer awarness and numerous other worthwhile causes. Her grace and beauty on and off the ice have made her a role model.
Ms. Fleming has provides several pieces of art for FIRE & ICE. While unable to attend, she has provided video and letter. Her 'Puppy" picture will be shown during intermission as background for the Alachua County Humane Society's "Puppy Parade" - providing the opportunity for audience members to foster or adopt a pup of their choice.
