WAR VS. THE ENVIRONMENT The environmental damage occasioned by war and preparation for war is routinely underestimated, underreported, even ignored. The 2008 documentary film "Scarred Lands & Wounded Lives - the Environmental Footprint of War", depicts the unprecedented scale of environmental damage over the last half century. This hour-long film shows how the environment remains war's "silent casualty." This unique, gripping work, created by pro-peace and pro-environment Washingtonian activists Alice and Lincoln Day, explores in detail the environmental effects of war.
On Saturday, October 15 at 7 PM, Peace Action of San Mateo County will present a free screening of Scarred Lands and Wounded Lives. The event will be in Beck Hall at the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at Ellsworth) in San Mateo.
In April, Scarred Lands & Wounded Lives was awarded the top prize in its category at the 44th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in Houston, Texas. The film's narrator, Robert K. Musil, is the former CEO of Physicians for Social Responsibility and former Executive Director of the SANE Education Fund (which later became the SANE/Freeze Education Fund and is now the Peace Action Education Fund).
Join us on October 15 for a memorable award-winning film. The UUSM is wheelchair accessible.
